The glass surface beneath him slid open; his remaining unoccupied hand shakily shot out against the floor to steady himself as he refused to collapse on top of his tiny daughter.
With the last remaining energy he had, he forced out the words

“I guess I’m just feeling a little behind? And now everyone is so far ahead of me, I wish I could just have someone who…” he stops himself, before he says too much. He tries to laugh it off. “I don’t even know. I barely know what I’m saying.”
“You wish you had someone who can show you?” Ilya catches on.
“Maybe,” Shane says, voice barely louder than a whisper. “It doesn't matter, though. It’s stupid. Let’s just sleep, okay?”
Ilya is quiet and Shane thinks the conversation has come to an end. That is, until Ilya speaks again. “I could do it.”
Shane’s heart stops. What the hell does that mean? “Do what?” he laughs, nervously.
“I could show you.”
