Communication was never their forte.
Months of withholding the dark secret that bore icy eyes, and sung haunting melodies in her sleep, causes Ladybug to end up pushing away her beloved Kitty. Fear of not being able to keep her identity a secret, fear that eventually that alternate dimension with Chat Blanc would become her real one.
If only she knew, what it did to him.
All Chat saw, was that this growing team of heroes were managing beyond perfectly without him. What need was there, for Chat noir? Not only was he consistently being ignored, his Lady didn't seem to need him. The ring was better of on someone else.
