Summary
Buck considers his options. There are two things that could be going on.
One: Eddie is just embarrassed by his slip-up at the beach. Kissing your friend on the back of his neck isn’t something they usually do—with each other or any of their friends—so this is just Eddie being self-conscious. Buck could ignore it and it wouldn’t affect their lives in any way.
Option two is different. Buck’s less sure of this one. It’s just—if it were him doling out kisses of affection with the people he loves and trusts and is building his life around? He’d be pretty embarrassed to give a kiss and not receive one back. Or, maybe not embarrassed. Maybe a flavour of rejection. And now he knows he’s definitely projecting, because Eddie doesn’t grapple with rejection the same way Buck does.

Summary
Nineteen hours after Buck leaves Eddie’s home, he knocks on the front door. Eddie looks down at his watch, convinced he’d lost track of time—he’s still got his shirt unbuttoned, hair wet from his shower, polish still drying on his shoes where they sit in the kitchen—but it’s only a hair before six. He frowns when he answers the door, knowing Buck will be entirely put together and ready to go.
He is. He’s got his hands behind his back, shoulders straining against his deep blue dress shirt. It’s new, Eddie can tell, the collar crisp and not a wrinkle to be found. “You’re early,” Eddie grouches, even as he steps aside to allow annoyingly, irritatingly hot and presentable Buck in.
But Buck doesn’t move. “Eddie,” he says, and his voice is smooth and low. It’s a tone that snaps Eddie’s attention back up to his face.

Summary
He’s not much of a talker, Grace has quickly discerned, the words he does share are spoken gruffly but quietly, even the gratuitous swearing. More habit than actually irate. Still, Grace is just wondering how to fill the silence without just rambling when Simon cautiously ventures, “Say I’m not dead. Say it is real… why rescue me? Why fix me up?”
He tilts his head, nonplussed, “Because you were stranded and you were hurt.”
“That’s not what I’m asking,” spoken through gritted teeth. “At least, at least be honest with me. For what reason? What do you want in return?”
In his lap, Grace’s fingers flex.
“I don’t want anything in return,” he says steadily.
