There seems to be a rather unfortunate side effect of working together all these years. Viktor isn't an idiot. He anticipated some affection would develop over time. Realistically, it began when he first read through those notes. Every damn page signed, a declaration of pride and trust in what was detailed there. Years worth of dedication, just for the smallest chance of success. A chance at making a positive change.
Few would be unmoved by such resolve, such conviction.

Even if their partnership survives Viktor confessing a feeling Jayce doesn’t have, things would change. Better they stay like this — enough affection to keep Viktor from going elsewhere, never nearly as much as he wants, all taken in a way Jayce doesn’t intend.

The more he helps, the more Jayce sees glimpses of Viktor, the man, not the priest. And the more glimpses he sees of Viktor, the more Jayce is so, so fucked.
