Summary
It's been a decade since the Phantom Thieves of Hearts disbanded, and Ren's life is going well -- he's got a new job in Tokyo, he's reconnecting with his old friends, and he's starting to get a handle on mourning the life he used to lead and the boy he couldn't save. When he runs into an eerily familiar stranger, however, everything starts to split at the seams.
Or, Ren Amamiya buys cheap coffee at the wrong place, at the wrong time, and all the grief he's tried to pack up and ignore comes back with a vengeance.

Summary
On the morning of February 4th, most of a decade ago, Akechi wakes with a start, stares blindly up at the tiles of the ceiling without registering what he’s looking at, and says out loud, “Well, that’s embarrassing.”

Summary
Futaba closes the door again for some thinking time. That was Goro Akechi on her doorstep. Well, on Sojiro’s doorstep, but Sojiro’s not here. Only Futaba is here.
Open door. Peep round it. Akechi is a sort of heap on the step. Asleep? Or… possibly dead? Dead mom-killing ex-detective on Futaba’s doorstep? Didn’t he die four years ago? How is he here? Futaba hasn’t slept. Or eaten. She shouldn’t have to deal with this. What do you even do with a murder-detective possibly-corpse? She closes the door.
Okay, no, she can’t just ignore him and hope he goes away.
Well, she could though. It’s super super tempting.
No, come on. What would Ren do? What would Sojiro do?
What would Mom do?

Summary
“What was he under investigation for?” Akechi gives Muhen one of those sharp looks again. “Just want to make sure we don’t have any other shady characters coming around here.” This is just curiosity now. He’s also hoping if he stalls Akechi enough, the kid’ll calm down enough Muhen'll feel OK letting him walk home by himself. “Bad for business.”
“That’s classified,” Akechi replies, without missing a beat. “But there won’t be any trouble. Like I said, he’s not coming back.”
*
Muhen keeps an eye on his regulars. That kid from TV's been one for a while now, so it sticks out when he starts acting weird in late November. He has a pretty good guess what it is, but he's not 100% sure.

Summary
“You can tell me the truth.”
“How about this,” Ryuji says, and takes a deep breath. “We can make a deal, OK? I will if you will.”
*
Late November. Ryuji catches Ren acting kind of off when the Phantom Thieves meet up to discuss sending Shido's calling card. He decides to try to stall for a day so they don't go in before he's gotten Ren to come clean about what's actually going on, even it means unleashing his ultimate move: initiating a one-on-one conversation in which he asks his best friend directly how he's feeling.
