Brucie said, his mouth a firm line. His usual playboy smile gone from his lips and his eyes were red from shed tears.
"A pound of flesh? Nothing more than that?" Another reporter asked.
"And not a single drop of blood. I can't have the Batman on my hide, now, can I?" Bruce Wayne responded as he walked away.
Or in an alternate universe wherein the Joker kills Jason Todd-Wayne and not Robin, Brucie Wayne "accidentally" puts a hit on the Joker.
It's not his fault that Gotham took things literally, Your Honour!

Summary
Slade hasn't quite left Gotham yet when the Society assigns him a contract on the Red Hood. For reasons he's not interested in asking about, they still want Black Mask in their ranks, and following the disastrous showing of their last hit squad, they've decided that it's a job best suited for actual professionals.
'Take the Red Hood off the board.' Simple enough. He's already worn himself out fighting the Bat, after all, and Slade's killed plenty of people just as dangerous as him. There's no reason one little fallen bird should give him any trouble.

Richard’s movements had grown rigid, and Damian could see his fingers tense on the back of his chair as he drew out his seat. “And yet you’re the lapdog, Slade,” Richard said, tone level, “Enjoying bowing to Ra’s al Ghul?”
Grandfather was watching the interplay like it was a particularly entertaining tennis match.
“If the prize is so sweet, I don’t mind,” Wilson said, and nothing in his tone changed but abruptly it sounded like a threat, “I still haven’t paid you back for Tacna, after all.”
Damian had never seen Richard’s face turn that color. His fingers were bone-white on the cutlery, and he chewed like he was eating concrete. He didn’t look at Damian once.

It was well after two in the morning by the time Dick climbed inside through his window, every inch of his body throbbing. The silence of his apartment felt oppressive after the roar of the wind had been deafening him for the last two hours. He stumbled into his bedroom, not bothering to even turn on the lights, and headed straight for his closet. He pulled off his domino mask and escrima sticks first, the motions automatic. His mind felt clouded. Foggy. He knew there were things he needed do, wounds he needed to take care of, but all he wanted to do was lie down. Not that sleep had been his friend recently.
Dick stilled as the cold, metal barrel of a gun kissed his bare neck.
"Bang. You're dead, little bird."
