Summary
Shane doesn’t know why he chose to move to Boston to join the Raiders after his hellish stint playing for the Metros. He had a long laundry list of reasons why Boston was the right fit for him: they were a legacy team, it was only a short plane ride away from his parents, it was a good city, a good hockey-loving city, where he could settle down and start to build his life. The list goes on. He thinks his mom even believed some of them.
He couldn’t deny, though, not to himself, at least, that Boston’s star center had a little bit to do with that decision.

Shane transfers to Boston early in his career after he finds himself at the center of a scandal with the Metros. Boston gives him a chance to start over, to build the professional hockey career he always dreamed of, but the transfer doesn’t come without its fair share of problems, especially since Boston is home to his on-ice rival, Ilya Rozanov.
The two become unlikely friends when Shane agrees to help him practice his English, bonding as they start to share bits of their respective cultures.

Summary
There was nothing in his room that Shane felt didn’t belong there. This was why, during his sophomore year, when he had taken a girl up to his room and she had looked so horribly out of place sat in the center of his sheets he had broken up with her the very next day. She had made his stomach twist into knots and his head hurt so much from the effort of thinking up how to perform for her that when he had seen how she stood out against his plain gray bedspread he had almost cried with relief.
When Rozanov comes over for the first time after two years of flirty messages and silent rejections Shane’s heart is in his throat. But when they make their way to his bedroom Shane almost forgets to close himself off. Rozanov doesn’t think his room is strange. When he chirps Shane’s throw pillows, casting an almost comically dubious glance at the stacks of them lining the bedframe, instead of closing in on himself, Shane laughs. It is clear that Rozanov does not think Shane’s bedroom is lacking in personality, in fact, he constantly pokes at all of the places he finds Shane that Shane hadn’t thought to look for himself.

“Can I tell you a secret?” Mom asks.
Shane nods immediately. He likes secrets. Especially from his mother. She knows everything about everything.
“It doesn’t matter what they say or do,” she tells him. “The only thing that matters is what you do on the ice.”
“Score lots of goals?” Shane clarifies, since eleven-year-old boys do all kinds of things on the ice.
“Score lots of goals.” Mom nods with a grin. “The ice doesn’t care who you are, Shane. So, you go out there and give it your everything. Then nothing else matters.”
“You promise?” Shane whispers.
“I promise,” Mom tells him firmly. “If you’re good on the ice, they won’t care who you are off it.”

Summary
Shane blinks back, and wonders what his face might be doing. He wonders if somewhere written among his freckles is the number of times that Shane’s intrusive thoughts have imagined the man before him in lewd scenarios. He wonders if his mouth --already disconnected from his conscious mind-- secretly whispers confessions of his fantasies in a devastating betrayal of the self.
Shane swallows. The two blue eyes are so fucking close that they could each be a mile wide. They could be barrels of a gun or the tips of arrows. They’re trained on Shane and call on his animalistic reactions of fight or flight.
Or fawn.
Shane Hollander was diagnosed with autism as a child. With delayed speech, sensory difficulties, and a brain that refused to conform, Shane grew up always finding ways to cope using hockey, systems, and routine. After temporarily losing his speech in a very public meltdown at the world juniors, Shane is forced to carve a path as the first publicly autistic player in the NHL, accommodations and all.
Chronic surprise Ilya Rozanov is determined to prove to Shane that he isn't a problem to be solved, while both men must learn to accept that they're worthy of love at all.
