Summary
Simon can't shower.
Not won't shower — he'd love to, in theory, stand under a hot deluge of water and just exist, passively, while it massaged the tension from his muscles. No, he is physically and mentally incapable of taking a shower. Any and every attempt he has made at correcting that deficit, of addressing this stupid fucking phobia head on, has gone the same way.
The only other option is asking Grace for help, and Simon would quite literally rather tear his other arm off than bother Grace with such a ridiculous request.
The worst part is, he knows Grace would do it in a heartbeat.

Summary
It wasn’t rare, exactly, for Grace to find- well. All sorts of horrifying sights washing up on the beach outside his home. They were usually within the realms of reality, though, and of course Grace was pretty unphased by them. And, okay, maybe horrifying was the wrong word to use, just sort of gross and sad. With the amount of plastics and other assorted junk being thrown into the ocean constantly, combined with fishing nets that drifted abandoned, every now and then he’d find some poor creature tangled up, often bleeding, usually dead.
The ones that weren’t, he’d take back up to his house and into his small lab, helping them recover before releasing them, if it was safe to. The ones that were, he’d still sort out, trying to give them the respect they deserved.
This was… different, to what he’d usually find, though.
In truth, he wasn’t really sure what he was looking at.
Or, in which Dr Ryland Grace finds a mermaid washed ashore. Said mermaid has way more trauma than he's prepared for.

Summary
Grace had made peace with his decision to leave Earth and humanity behind. He truly had. If it was to save Rocky and Erid, he would make that choice a thousand times over. But whatever impossible little slice of serendipity had dropped a living, breathing human into space 16.3 lightyears away from Earth was really testing the mettle of those convictions. Because the possibility that the man might live meant the possibility of a companion with whom Grace could share a real touch and the same air. But it also meant that if he died, Grace would have to grieve the loss of all human connection, ever, all over again.
Hope felt a lot like ripping open an old wound sometimes.

5 months ago, a series of space stations calling themselves the "Coalition of Iron" appeared throughout the 40-Eridani system, bearing a bewildering and terrifying story of a universe without stars, a humanity on the verge of extinction, and a moon made of human blood.
Simon survived the Eel and the Eye, only to reimprisoned as soon as he was pulled out, subject to the whims of scientists who seek answers in his biology. Now, Ava's dumped him into the custody of a new scientist, separate from the COI, a complete unknown. He's learned better by now than to hope.
Dr. Ryland Grace is pulled from his peaceful life on Erid to retrieve a specimen from the COI, an organism mutated by prolonged exposure to the blood ocean of AT-5
