Summary
Immediately follows “Deliverance”, the previous work in “The Yearning” series – so it is necessary to read that first. This story uses the metaphor of the major arcana in the Tarot. It chronicles a year in Kara and Lena’s relationship, and how they find magic and purpose in family, friendship, and love. The whole gang is here too but have a minor part to play in the story. Lex may be in the Phantom Zone, but Cadmus is alive and well, and a new enemy comes out of the darkness to confront our favorite couple.

Summary
"So to keep yourself from getting hurt by love, you're…casting a spell to…find it?" Sam says, her face twisted up in confusion as Lena wanders the garden gathering the herbs she needs. It's dark outside, and they're darting between shadows – the garden is here for the kitchen staff to pick fresh ingredients from, and the last time Lillian found her snipping rosemary she was confined to her room for two months.
"I'm calling for Amas Veritas," Lena clarifies. "I'm binding myself to a person that doesn't exist."
"How do you know they don't exist?"
"They can't. No person can fit all my criteria. And if they don't exist, I can never fall in love."
OR
Lena Luthor is cursed. Everyone she loves is doomed to die; it would take someone truly indestructible to survive a magic that’s ingrained in her very bloodline. When she binds herself to a true love that can’t exist, the last thing she expects is for Kara Danvers to turn up and prove her wrong.

An AU (lightly) inspired by Practical Magic.
