A beat of silence passes. When Wriothesley looks up again, Neuvillette’s expression has noticeably relaxed. The barely-there hint of a smile looks beautiful in the dim light of his office.
“I am most grateful for your invitation, Your Grace, and I would happily accept,” he says.
Wriothesley had not expected that answer. He blinks. “Really?”
“Of course,” Neuvillette says, amusement creeping into his tone. “The event happens to fall during a lighter period of activity here at the Palais Mermonia. A happy coincidence. I can be free for the evening.”
The Fortress of Meropide comes together for a scrap-up celebration of White Day—a grander event than any they've hosted before. Wriothesley invites Neuvillette, and the night proceeds in a way that he is not at all expecting.

Then, recognition draws, unravelling his stillness like the first stirrings of the morning’s light. His blue gaze sharpens, shifting fully to Mydei instead of the antique dealer, and in an instant the market fades away. Within seconds, his features transform: eyebrows lifting, a radiant smile breaking across his face that crinkles the corners of his eyes with something warm, something impossibly sweet. Mydei has to wonder if anyone else gets this smile, or if it’s reserved specially for him.
He hopes it is.

The prince pauses, catching Phainon’s breath in his loosely clenched fist as he lowers his hand.
“...return another day with a more concise request, and we may reconsider, Phainon of Aedes Elysiae.”
Phainon finally arrives in Castrum Kremnos, though instead of coming to train as originally intended, he now asks for their aid in saving Aedes Elysiae.
Now, if only their prince would take a second to listen...
