Nanami lift his head up. His eyes softening even more as he lift Mahito's chin up, "I promised you that I'll keep you safe, didn't I?" Mahito nodded, "Then why don't you believe it? You don't trust me?"
The curse pouted, his eyes glossing up, "I can't trust humans... What if you want to kill me later? What if they find about this and they make you kill me?" he shook his head as tears rolled down his cheeks, "I don't wanna die. Not from your hand."

Summary
At the edge of every soul, in the spaces no human was meant to see, was a line.
The red strings that tie one human soul to another don’t seem that consequential to Mahito, until he spots a soul with a string that’s been cut.
With nothing else to guide him and little else to do, Mahito sates his whims and tails the human. It shouldn’t be an issue. Normal people don’t see him. It shouldn’t have mattered if he followed him a block or ten.
It shouldn’t have mattered—but it would.

This new situation might even bring them closer together than they'd already grown to be over the past few months since the day Mahito came to him, at death's door and ready to give away the name of the man who punished him for failing his mission and killing the kid he was supposed to use as bait to form a pact with the king of curses.
