Summary
Getting used to Heaven is something of a marvel. It ain't perfect, and Dean thinks he'd hate it if it was, which is probably why it isn't.
~~~
"You don't understand," Dean whispers, exhaling shakily. "I know you don't, because even I don't. The instant you were gone, I wanted you back. Cas, I wanted you back. I wanted—I wanted—"
Cas stares at him, searching his face. After a moment, his own face falls slack, eyes widening just so. "Oh," he breathes out.
Dean wants to be furious that Cas has figured it out before he has—whatever it is—but he's not even that surprised. Cas knows him too well, always has, even more than Dean knows himself. He's been kicking Dean in the goddamn teeth with how deeply he understands him, even about the things Dean doesn't, ever since they first met. You don't think you deserve to be saved, that's what Cas had said. All bundled up in impossibilities and power, this being that looked at Dean Winchester and knew every single inch of him, as if he had a right to each part.
"What?" Dean grits out.
"I love you, too."
Summary
Art for NorthernSparrow's wonderful fic "Under The Midnight Sun".
Excerpt of the fic's summary:
"Dean Winchester's been camp manager for a science research station on the Alaskan tundra for thirteen years. It's really not any of Dean's business when some weirdo antisocial ornithologist sets up a tent a few miles away, a dark-haired blue-eyed guy who's doing a "very long-term" study on birds or wings or something, and who never, ever takes up his big lumpy backpack."Series
Summary
She tries to think of a jest and then decides against it. It is a silent dance between the two of them: his decision to gift her with the jewelry around her neck, hers to wear it upon his return to King’s Landing, his to reach out and touch it. Her face flushes when she remembers the way his fingers brushed against her flesh, the way his thumbs traced her lower lip before… she wonders if he will be gentle. She hopes not.
an alternate ending to Episode 5, in which Daemon takes Rhaenyra to Dragonstone
Summary
Castiel comes back from the Empty, and life resumes in the ordinary ways it always does: hunts, diner coffee, motel rooms, late drives, evenings in the bunker.
What Dean doesn’t expect is the quiet.
Night after night, he and Cas keep ending up alone together after everyone else has gone to bed; sharing a drink, trading small observations, circling questions Dean never quite managed to ask when it mattered most. About that night. About what Cas said. About what any of it was supposed to mean.
Cas answers him with the same steady honesty he always has.
And somewhere in the middle of all that ordinary life; between road fatigue, soft silences, half-finished jokes, and the private ritual; Dean begins to realize he may not be searching for Cas’s meaning anymore.
He may be trying to find his own.
Summary
Across eleven off-screen drives in Baby, Dean Winchester and Castiel build a private life in the spaces between hunts: awkward observation, bad jokes, forced care, late-night arguments, shared grief, quiet domesticity, and the kind of intimacy neither of them is brave enough to name out loud.
What begins as uneasy company slowly becomes its own language. A look across the dashboard. A question about a song lyric. A hand on the wheel, a map in the dark, a life that stops feeling empty when the right person is in it. Mile by mile, Dean and Cas become each other’s person long before Dean is willing to do anything with what that means.
And then Cas is gone.
Between Places is a canon-spanning Destiel story about all the ordinary drives that turned into a life, and the devastating clarity of realizing too late that love had been beside you the whole time.
