"You could grow it out now," Shane suggests.
"I could, but I do not think I will," Ilya says, his unease melting away as his eyes shut, leaning into Shane's hand again. "Svetlana has curly hair, and she is the only reason I know anything about taking care of mine. I do not even like doing my hair but she will kill me if I ever step out of my house with big, frizzy bush. Long hair would be so much work, I think."
Shane laughs softly. His eyes drift back up to Ilya's curls, his fingers raking through them again and again. He's currently making it a frizzy bush, but they have nowhere to be today.
"I think it would look good if you did," Shane says softly. "I think you'd look good no matter what."

Summary
Ilya yelps when Shane pinches him. "Okay, okay," he concedes. "I will listen to my very smart, beautiful husband next time."
Shane smoothes his hand over where he just pinched as an apology, before going back to kneading Ilya's muscles. They don't speak as Shane works, but he can feel Ilya's breathing hitch from time to time if a spot hurts enough.
"Fuck," he groans as Shane works one spot on his left side, just above the waistband of his boxers. "That— fuck, Shane."

Most of the time, Ilya doesn’t pick on him about it. Partly because Ilya knows when to pick and choose his battles, and any battle relating to a Shane routine is lost before it starts – but mainly because the little sleepy snuffling sounds that he insists he doesn’t make because he’s not sleeping, he’s meditating, so shut the fuck up, are really fucking cute.
But sometimes, Ilya wants – needs – his husband’s undivided attention in their last few moments of peace before another loud, hectic, and exhausting day full of other people stealing it.
Or maybe annoying Shane just enough to get him to slam the door a little bit too hard on his way out of the car, to give Ilya one quick dose of his adorable angry kitten face, is Ilya’s own form of morning meditation.
“Shane.”
Shane starts a bit, but otherwise doesn’t move or open his eyes. “Hmm?”
