Summary
“Why do you hate him so much? The Coyote.”
The words carry an edge of uncertainty, which Degas can’t decide should be attributed to the subject’s untested waters or Paris granting him full English.
“Paris,” he says, overly polite so the correction doesn’t come across condescending. “Coyote’s already an insufferable nickname. It doesn’t need a definite article in front of it.”

But the mission is nothing like he had ever done before, and as they get pulled deeper into the mission he has to contend with the danger surrounding it and what it might mean for the people in his life.
Especially since as he spends more time with Hangman he realizes that what he thought he wanted might not actually be what he wants at all.

Summary
Mav’s both eyebrows twitched. “That does sound like it’s going to be a problem.”
“I didn’t mean it like that,” he said, making himself look straight ahead, avoiding eye contact. “He’s a shithead in the same way you are.”
“Bradley,” Mav said, and he was using that tone, the one that made Bradley feel like he was fifteen again.
“What? It’s true. He has the same lack of brain-to-mouth filter, doesn’t know when to quit, I can go on if you want,” he said, but Mav didn’t take the bait. They marched down the tarmac, getting closer and closer to the others’ hearing range, and Mav was still staring at him, expecting an explanation. He sighed. “He’s my ex-boyfriend.”
“Your—” Mav exclaimed, falling a step behind Bradley, before catching up, striding inches away from Bradley’s side. “From before?”
"Yep."
“Why didn’t you say anything?”
God, why was this tarmac so long? “As much as I’d prefer to avoid him, orders are orders, Mav.”
Or, it's time for the special detachment and Bradley's decisions from five years ago are finally catching up with him.

Summary
Jake sees a flash of movement out of the corner of his eye. There’s a creature watching them from the waves.
It’s a seal, he quickly realizes. Big and bulky, fully adult. Coarse brown fur, huge black eyes, slick pelt. The seal is staring directly at Jake, something baleful and almost challenging in its manner. Now that he thinks about it, he’s certain he’s seen this same seal patrolling the waters around the island or sunbathing lazily on the black rocks.
It has a distinctive, recognizable whisker pattern: prominent and bushy, like a particularly bad mustache.

Summary
He should hang up. Go back to sleep. Doesn’t, when a whine fills his ear. Jake sits up straighter as the whine turns into sobs, as an omega, on the line, falls apart. But then-
"Pete? Sweetheart, please… Let me?" a far away voice begs above the cries.
A steadier lilt. Desperate nonetheless. Jake grits his teeth. Expects the worst.
"Mr. Seresin? This is Admiral Kazansky speaking."
Or: Jake runs an omega rehabilitation centre in Texas.
