“Shh.” Charles puts a finger to Max’s lips. “Quiet now, little lamb. We are not alone.”
Max quickly, wisely, shuts the fuck up. He’s entirely sure he stops breathing for the time it takes for Charles to decide they were okay to keep walking.
When he speaks again, his voice is low and murmured, “what did you hear?”
Charles looks back at him and smiles. “Nothing to concern yourself with. They could not hurt you while I am with you.”

“Drink some of this, Charles,” Daniel says, offering him the ornate wine bottle. “Be one of us.”
As Charles brings it to his lips, Max appears right by his side, hand stilling Charles’ arm. “Don't!” Then, softer, “You don't have to, Charles. It's blood.”
Charles scoffs, “Yeah, sure.”
He brings the bottle to his lips and drinks deep.

Summary
The cool metal of the car pressing into Charles’ cheek is in direct contrast to the sticky heat everywhere else. Max’s hands are at his hips, thumbs digging into the flesh hard enough he’s sure that he’ll have bruises for the next few days. With every thrust, his chest is jumping across the front of the car. They shouldn’t be doing this, especially not here, and that, in part, is what makes it so good.

Max wakes up warm.
There’s an arm around his waist. Fingers dipping into the waistband of his boxers; a nose pressed to the skin at the back of his neck, soft puffs of air ruffling through his hair. He shifts closer, pressing his back fully against Charles’ bare chest. They’re sharing a pillow, barely any space between them. The duvet had been kicked off at some point in the night, but it’s mid-July and Max’s apartment doesn’t really get that cold anyway, especially not with the huge windows beaming the morning sun over them.
It’s a new development, this relationship. New enough that they haven’t put a name to it just yet, but it’s big and real and theirs.
