On screen, Orm presses her forehead against Lingling’s. The lights are hot, the set is hushed, and every tiny sound — the faint creak of the boom mic shifting, the director’s breathing — feels miles away. All that matters is Lingling, whose eyes are soft and steady, pulling Orm in like gravity.
For a second, Orm almost forgets this is work. Almost.
“Cut!” The director’s voice slices through the silence. “Beautiful. That’s the one.”
Lingling pulls back first, her expression instantly neutral again. She pats Orm’s head like she’s rewarding a puppy that learned a trick. “Good job, Nong Orm. You didn’t giggle this time.”
Orm’s lips twitch into a scowl. “I wasn’t going to giggle.”
