“Look who’s back,” Sirius said coldly.
James followed his gaze, nearly choking when he saw who it was. Regulus Black.
The last time he’d seen him had been in the paper in ’81, head down and eyes hidden as he walked away free after his trial. The Imperius excuse, just like all the other rich pureblood cowards. That was five years ago now.
“Do you know where he’s been?”
Sirius scoffed. “Hiding in shame, I bet. Don’t know why he’s back now, must be going mad or something.”
Months later, James would find himself praying to anyone who’d listen that Sirius had been wrong, and that Regulus Black hadn’t finally succumbed to the infamous Black Madness.
