Summary
Parker's been chasing this bastard down for a long time now, even if he can't quite remember why.
Keep going. Just keep pushing forward. Just a little further. You catch him, and then—and then you can—
—Then he can what?

Summary
After gaining the Blackstone at last, Kayne finds his way to the Waylay, determined to find out for certain who's been aiding Arthur and John before he sets out to make his final wager. The Manager, however, is not entirely defenseless. Kayne finds himself confronted with a place that clearly knows him far too well, and that is far too skilled at turning him against himself in a very literal sense.
Featuring: blood, extremely weird times with mirrors, blood, questions about free will and the nature of self, violence, blood, and the infinite chorus of voices in Kayne's head. Also: quite a bit of blood.

Summary
"Welcome back to the Waylay, Mr. Lester. Here's your Blood & Sand — and a root beer float for your little girl. I'll let your friend know you've arrived safe and sound, sir."
Arthur has been so busy lately, he's barely had any time to spend with Faroe, so he's brought her out this evening for a treat by way of apology.
At least, he's pretty sure that's why the two of them are here.
He's less sure of other things, like: why Parker was waiting for them. How they got here. Where "here" actually is. Why Parker watches him with a terrible sadness that only deepens whenever Arthur looks at Faroe.
And why Arthur keeps getting the feeling that someone has reached straight into his chest, and torn out half his heart.

Summary
Going all in on that wager might, in retrospect, have been a mistake. Certainly it could have gone better.
But that was a very long time ago now.

Summary
But oh, if he's going to fall, he's going to bring the sky down with him. He's going to drag the heavy gray fog, every bolt of lightning, every last star down to burn the earth to its core. His limbs practically painted the ground on impact, and still he was a vile, burning, angry thing.
And it was all his fault.

Summary
Enter Arthur Lester. Your English rose, your songbird, your Romeo if you want to be dramatic. He's one of many, millions of others scattered across crimson keys like blood-red nebulae.
He's horribly melodramatic. It's almost cute. He cries much more than he should, really, and god is he loud when he screams. You can't hate it though, the sound is quite beautiful. His heart is in the right place though, and he always knows what he wants. He's like you, in a way. So of course, you need to talk to him.

Summary
Arthur thinks he’s crying. Kayne once told him that he was never quiet even when he couldn’t speak, and this is what he must’ve meant. He has no lungs to scream but there’s a wave of some distant emotion, old and deep and terrible, welling up from wherever his soul resides and it takes the shape of a desperate and helpless cry. But he’s only a whisper, more filth than man, and there’s mud where his tongue used to be.

Or, Arthur can do nothing but think.
