bennie remained silent, contemplating what she would say—why was she even considering giving him her name?
when she looked over at the man, luke, after a few seconds of remaining silent, she noticed that friendly smile on his oddly pretty lips was faltering anxiously from the lack of her response.
“hey, ya don’t hafta answer, and if i’m makin’ ya uncomfortable–”
“bennie.”
she answers, her eyes widening at the impulsiveness of her response, interrupting him before he could continue worrying.

after a few seconds, he could feel bennie crawling on top of him after the continuous shaking, her knees on either side of his hips as she plants herself above him, digging into the mattress and blankets.
impatient.
luke thought as a small quirk formed at the corner of his lips, earning a scoff from the woman towering him while straddling his waist. he knew she definitely saw that.
"faker!" bennie exclaims, but luke could hear the smile in her voice and the laugh mixed in with it.
the smirk on his lips formed into a playful grin, chuckles escaping as he turns to look at the bleach blonde before him.

there was determination laced in his voice, one that was convinced they’d continue living, even if fate could step in to cruelly prove that wrong.
but, selfishly, bennie found herself believing the same as a result of luke’s infectious hope for their outcome.

the promise in his words, without even having to say ‘i promise’, was heavy in his tone.
the way he didn’t hesitate to pull her into his embrace, reminding her that nothing about this was shallow, was further proof of the fact that he was determined to stay by her side.
bennie knew it was all true, and was coming to terms with that truth again, knowing he was being honest with her.
