Summary
When Constance's widowed and troubled twin sister, Alma, stops responding to her letters, she abandons her fiancé and travels to the countryside to pay her a visit. Upon arriving, she discovers her sister's body and decides to take her identity as a disguise to uncover the truth of her murder.
An epistolary account, told through letters and diary entries.-
"Sister Mary Ursula beckoned me towards her, and I went eagerly. Something about her presence drew me closer - I felt magnetised to her, like I could not pull away and did not want to try. She reached a hand up to my face, tenderly stroking my cheek before trailing her hands back down my shoulders and gently guiding me to kneel beside her. I yielded without resistance.
She withdrew her touch, and I so desperately wanted to reach out and reclaim it. To take her hands in my own and place them back against my skin. To intertwine my finger with hers. Even with the barrier of the gloves, it was truly intoxicating. One by one, she removed each of her rings and let them fall to the ground: opal, topaz, emerald, diamond, all clattered carelessly on the unforgiving stone floor, echoing so loudly that I’m sure it was heard by the Vicar and Sisters. "
