Summary

Henry’s at a local Hispanic Heritage Month event browsing the art stalls when his gaze catches on a kid looking around with both purpose and nervousness. She’s fidgeting with the hem of her t-shirt with one hand while she bites the nails of the other one, eyes alert and searching. Lost, then.
And oh, Henry recognises her. She’s a regular at his bookstore, even at only six years old, and is there at least weekly with her dad—Alex, who she’d introduced to Henry as her papi—or various aunties and uncles, most of whom Henry doesn’t think are actually related to her. Keeping one eye on her, he lets his gaze sweep the vicinity but doesn’t see anyone else he even remotely recognises. Shit. He has to do something.
“Sirena?” he calls gently.Henry... is more than a bit useless around hot guys. So when he finds the lost kid of the gorgeous dad who frequents his bookstore, he pulls himself together until they reunite, only to then be devastated by the revelation that the man thinks Henry hates him. And, well... courage always rises, and all that.

The maid has heard all of the rumors, the palace is haunted. Some of the staff have seen apparitions, things go missing, there are sounds that can’t be explained. The chief of staff doesn’t believe in such things, the queen is older and forgetful, she takes things. They are her things, she’s the queen after all, it’s not like it’s stealing. It’s easier to keep replicas on hand, it’s not worth anyone being accused of a crime for something the queen doesn’t remember. But the maid has heard a giggle and felt something unseen brush past her leg in the hallways.

Alex confesses his love to Henry on a Tuesday.
“If you die, I don’t think I’m ever going to recover.”
“I’m sorry you feel that way.”
Alex’s jaw visibly clenches, and he thrusts the mug back into Henry’s chest. When he tilts his head up, Henry is shocked to see that his eyes are wet. “Henry, please. I won’t be able to live with myself.”
Henry places the mug down onto the counter and cautiously brings a hand up to Alex’s shoulder. He tries to ignore the way Alex shivers, or the way his eyes flutter shut for a moment.
“Alright, alright. I understand. However,” he squeezes his hand, “I’m not sure I have it in me to stop loving him.”
Alex nods, quiet, then brings a hand – slowly, so slowly – up to cup Henry’s jaw. “Same.” He searches Henry’s eyes. After a moment, Henry tips his head in a nod. He closes his eyes. He feels Alex’s hot breath against his lips. “Who?”
“Sebastian,” Henry whispers.OR, Henry is in love with someone, and it’s killing him. Alex is in love with Henry, and just wants to save him.
Some people fall in love in a day, and some take a little longer.

Henry’s stopped catastrophizing about it or trying to logic his way around it. He might have more feelings about it when it actually happens, but Henry likes knowing that Alex has an extra layer of support and unconditional love anytime he needs it. That if for some reason Henry ever couldn’t be there, Venom would.
He also sort of likes the fact that his boyfriend’s extraterrestrial symbiote-bond thinks he’s hot. It’s not the weirdest thing that could have happened. Maybe.

The guy currently approaching the counter is an absolute smoke show. The turquoise of his hair would be bright enough on anybody, but contrasted against the man’s dark skin, it’s practically neon. He has rich, sparkling eyes and a mischievous grin, and he’s clutching something weirdly lumpy and hastily wrapped in brown paper in his well-manicured hands. Liam thinks he should have more questions about the parcel—and he probably will in a minute, given that it’s his literal job to ask them—but right now, he’s pretty focused on remembering how his knees are supposed to work.
Or, five times Pez brings in something ridiculous to post to his friend in the States, and one time Liam has to put his foot down.
