“Penelope Featherington, you climbed all those steps just to come and see me in my tower, which means something must be wrong,” comes Agatha’s clipped voice from the other end of the door. “I see no sense in prolonging things, so you may as well come in.”
Penelope murmurs a quiet apology as she enters, shutting the heavy door behind her. Further into the room, Agatha Danbury beckons her over to where she’s seated by the fireplace, deep purple robes billowing around her.
“You look frightened, child,” Agatha says. “What is it that could possibly have you worked into such a state?”
