Summary
Wifies wasn’t good at swimming. Not that it’d ever been a problem with Hummer, considering they needed to ‘trust’ and drown for the Leviathan in the first place. If anything, it should’ve made finding it easier.
But no, apparently he had to learn how to swim properly. Which included diving headfirst off the tip of the ship, instead of a diving board, then trying to survive it.
Even when he gave in to that, a new problem sprang up.
How come the Leviathan saved him?
Not only that, why wasn’t Hummer surprised to see it?
OR

Where did you come from when you tried to find the one thing you wanted to believe? No matter what came against you, that urge to believe in something, at least just one thing, and try to secure it by seeing it all for yourself.
In gaining a belief, you lose the other.
In this case, Wifies gained belief, and Hummer might've lost his.
He believed, and he truly didn't stop.
Doomed is the sailor that came into the deep ocean, now left without his submarine.
So as declared by Isaiah, "I have seen their ways, but I will heal them; I will guide them and restore comfort to Israel’s mourners." (Isaiah 57:18)
It will give comfort, only to those that believe.
