The prophecy says one will come to bring the dragons back, and he will be half made of myth himself.
Once at peace, the nations of Akielos and the Winter Islands are on-edge. Damen, the Crown Prince of Akielos, has been sent to the once-great island of Vere to retrieve a prince, honour a promise, and prevent a war before it can begin. In a burning palace he finds Laurent, born to prophecy and cut off from the world—it was once said he would bring magic back, but grey runs the water in Vere these days, as summer slips away. Laurent's uncle warns that the prince has grown dangerous, and Damen doesn't know what there's left to believe in.

Summary
Laurent didn’t say anything. His throat was throbbing, and the back of his head hurt from where it had struck the wall. To ally with Damianos of Akielos was unthinkable; but the only other option was to kill him, and it was becoming increasingly clear that he would not be able to do that tonight.
“It’s getting dark,” Damianos noted, glancing at the sky. Apparently his silence had been taken for assent. “I will accompany you to your camp.”
Oh, that was too much. “You are not invited to my camp,” Laurent snarled.
Damianos looked at him for a long moment, before the corner of his mouth quirked up once more, the beginnings of an infuriating, arrogant grin. “And how will you stop me, sweetheart?” he asked.

There’s a lone forgotten strand, tucked into the collar of Laurent’s navy sweater. Damen’s eyes linger on it for a long moment, briefly imagining a world in which he’d be allowed to reach forward and untuck it for him, fingers against the soft skin of Laurent’s neck. It’s a startlingly intimate thought to have surrounded by a hundred other strangers and Damen shifts in his seat, forcing his eyes away as Laurent pulls an elastic from his thin wrist and loops it around the end of his braid.
Alternatively, five times Damen watches Laurent braid his hair and one time Damen braids it for him.
