    Summary

    “Plenty of women have children at thirty, Mohan,” Jack says, sparing her a smile that he can’t be bothered to tuck away. “Plenty of women have children into their forties. The clock isn’t ticking.”

    “My ovaries would disagree,” she scoffs.

    ++

    When she complains about the price of fertility preservation, Jack Abbot offers to pay for Samira Mohan to freeze her eggs while she finishes out her final year of residency. When she points out there's a higher chance of success in freezing embryos, they embark on a slightly different journey together.

    Samira blinks once, starting to put her AirPod back in, but before she can walk away, there’s a soft tap on her shoulder, turning to find Abbot, his face open.

    “I know you turned Santos down, but she’s not wrong, the locker room showers are . . . pretty gnarly. If it’s a distance thing, you can use the guest bath at my place, at least while you’re working.”

    “Oh—” Samira says.

    Summary

    Dr. Samira Mohan and Dr. Jack Abbot are two people who have their lives together.

    Both would attest to this fact, if asked.

    The problem is twofold: 1) nobody asks Dr. Samira Mohan and Dr. Jack Abbot if they believe they have their lives together; thus, no one can call complete and utter bullshit.

    And 2) they really, really fucking don't.
