    After graduating from high school, Jolyne was put up to the task of cleaning out some stuff from her mom’s attic on a hot Florida summer day.

    She stumbled across an old photo album with pictures of her parents when they were young. She flipped through it, sweaty, bored, and curious.

    Stuck in the back of the album was a photo of her dad with another young man.

    Their faces were pressed close together and smiling.

    Jolyne stared at the photo of her dad for several moments. She looked at the way his eyes crinkled. His teeth gleamed. There was a slight blur in the photo. He must have been moving, laughing maybe, when it was taken.

    She tried to remember if she had ever seen her dad smile like that around her. She wasn’t sure.

    Jolyne took out the photo and looked at the back.

    “Your best friend, Kakyoin” was written in neat black pen. Jolyne was puzzled. She couldn’t imagine her dad having friends.

    “I can’t believe you haven’t torn something yet,” Noriaki said, a worried undertone to his words that he couldn’t quite conceal. “Actually, I can’t believe that you can still move like this. It’s like I’m trying to knead a brick wall.”

    Jotaro didn’t doubt it. He just didn’t think that he could unclench his jaw for long enough to piece together a proper response.
