It was the reason why she also offered her services to sever people from their fates. She’s fine with tampering in the gods’ domain, taking cash in exchange for amputations of the heart, as long as she never finds out whose string was connected to hers.

“Ah, fuck,” Yelena swore on the other line, and then a muffled sound followed.
Immediately, the two of them were on high alert.
“Yelena?” Ava called out. “Are you okay?”
A beat of silence stretched, thick and heavy.
Then Yelena let out a breath, but nothing that sounded anything remotely distressed.
“Да, I am fine,” she grumbled. “Just dropped my phone. What did you need again?”Or: The Watchtower’s AI malfunctioned at one of the worst times: Yelena’s one day off every two weeks, where she specifically said not to contact her unless one of them is on their deathbed. Luckily for the New Avengers, she did pick up, even though she was very much busy partaking in something that definitely wasn’t rated PG with the love of her life.
