I could compare myself to Icarus, and her to the sun, or our love is the boy with waxen wings, and the sun is our fate, or maybe the ocean is, far, far below. Underneath the single yellow streetlamp, Avery pauses. Looking up, he sees that the top of the pole stretches out to illuminate the road, and he steps out without checking for traffic, thinking of nothing but standing in the light. He hears only the whistle of the cars in the distance. If he just stays here, it won’t even take 12 hours. Eventually, something very, very bad will come.
For once in Avery's life, everything went right. Derek lived through the impossible events of New Year's Eve and is now safe in his apartment, and has been for the past two weeks. It's an incredible stroke of luck.
But every action has an equal and opposite reaction, and Avery is waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Adrian keeps adjusting the temperature of the Biosphere for some reason. Ryland can't stand the way his sweat covered skin keeps sticking to the sheets. It also doesn't help that there is a rather burly man behind him in bed radiating off enough heat to be compared to a Wolf-Rayet star. Ryland needs to cool down before he loses his mind.

Grace was doing his best not to freak out. He and Rocky had rescued a human (?) from a submarine (??) floating in space. Now their new passenger was unconscious on the floor of the airlock. It was fine! Grace was just going to watch Rocky sleep and not worry about that, or anything else, until he had to. Well, that was the plan. Until the man (???) woke up and pinned Grace against the wall with what were maybe (definitely) tentacles. Grace may have been enjoying that a bit too much.

“This okay?” Simon muttered, the vibrations from his words rippling across Grace’s stomach.
“Yes… yes I just…” Grace struggled to catch his breath. “This was not how I was expecting tonight to go.”
Simon paused his kisses. “How did you see this going?”
“I don’t know. We would… talk about it?”
“Do you want to talk instead?”
Grace couldn’t even remember what he wanted to say. Actually, there were no words that described what he wanted. “No. No, keep going.”

Or Eridians find Simon's submarine while spreading Astrophage to the galaxy and bring him back to Erid. Grace has to change his normal routine to help this new human adjust to life. Slowly, they get to know one another, despite Simon potentially being a war criminal from a moon with an ocean full of blood. But there's just something else about Simon that Grace can't shake, and he's pretty sure Simon feels it too... -

“I’m just teasing,” Simon says, voice gentler. Almost apologetic. Definitely still more amused than Ryland cares for. “I’m more surprised than anything.”
The sentence hangs alongside the rush of the shower, bouncing around the side of the tub. Bouncing around inside Ryland’s far too curious brain. Ryland sighs. “Why?”
Simon doesn’t point out the way his voice cracks, a small mercy. “Wasn’t sure you even bothered with lowly things like…in-flight self service.”
