Summary
Jet leans a fraction forward more, placing a hand on Zuko’s knee. The heat from the touch hits him sharper than the sea wind and Zuko's eyes snap back up.
Jet lets himself pause, watching for a flicker of reaction, any sign of retreat— but Zuko doesn’t move.
Zuko stares, silent, intense, burning.
“So, are you with me?”
And Zuko's gaze flickers to Jet's hands, like he hesitates another moment but then— Zuko nods slowly, eyes remain locked on Jet’s now.
"...yes.”
Jet exhales through his nose like something clicks into alignment. His grin is impossible to hide.

That stops him more than argument would and Jet’s expression tightens. “You saw the scar.”
“I saw a scar,” she corrects. “That doesn’t make him the Crown Prince of the Fire Nation.”
Jet scoffs once. “It matches the posters.”
“It matches a lot of people,” she shoots back immediately, like she'd been waiting for him to say that. “You’re building a whole war out of one face and a story you like better than what’s in front of you.”

Summary
Marco Bodt has a problem. He has the biggest hero complex out there, and though it gains him friends he isn’t thought of kindly by the police: they don’t appreciate a scruffy wannabe bohemian trying to do their job. He helps people, and then he vanishes. But when he saves a rather hostile man from being mowed down by an over-enthusiastic bus driver on the streets of Trost, he doesn’t get the reaction he expects. He gets shouted at for helping, for saving, and realises that sometimes people don’t want to be saved, or worse still, don’t think they should be.
He also begins to find that no matter how hard he tries, he can't pull himself away from the one person who destroyed his universe... and then put it together again.
One thing's for certain: it's going to be a hard pill to swallow.

EDIT 2026: Damn young me had no etiquette wtf??? The illness really isn't weird, I think the fact that I thought it was "odd" for a character to have shows that we need more visibility to finally break the stigma. Lowk gotta reread this

Or, I wanted to make everything even more violent and traumatizing and give R + Hr their flowers and an even worse time, to really get them on par with Harry.
Or, I wrote a silly little Rarry one-shot the other night and then spent twelve hours vomiting this onto the page. I changed some things, kept a couple characters alive, killed Percy, made it an actual slow-burn, and decide to torture Ron because I love him...
None of these relationships are healthy. Lol.

Ok usually I don't bookmark stuff until I'm up to date, but I'm two chapters in and I already KNOW that this deserves to go on the bookmark list. The writing style is just amazing and Ron's style??? I know I can't actually look at it because it's just words, but in my head he looks so cool. I absolutely LOVE the characterizations in this, just top notch.
EDIT 2026/05: I wish there was a way to bookmark this again so I can always have this on the front of me bookmarks page. One of the best fics Ive ever read
