Six years ago, when Iroh spoke these somber words to comfort a bewildered Zuko, neither of the two men could have imagined how harsh, dizzying, and trying the fall would be. Nor did they foresee that Zuko would be drawn into it. Having lost everything, he is left with no one but this broken sister he once saw as his enemy.

Zuko laughs despite himself, and Rin looks pleased that her dark joke has landed even as Aang and Katara both raise their eyebrows at Zuko, visibly startled; he supposes it’s because he can probably count on one hand how often he’s laughed in front of them before.
