Megan wasn’t one to usually victimize herself, but truly, having dyslexia had delayed her career plans.
Working in the CIA’s Directorate of Operations’ cyberanalytics team had been humbling enough. In just the last year, she’d mispelled several words on her quarterly presentation, conditioned her body to six hours of sleep, developed an ever-present sense of mild anxiety, and hacked through more security chips and intelligence networks abroad than she could count on both hands.
And based on Megan’s recent performance… well, she didn’t blame Missy for not wanting to put a dyslexic spy in the middle of Berlin and accidentally misspelling a license plate lead, or causing an international crisis because an asset kept saying ‘Royal Harem.’

Yoonchae had never believed in the gods or negotiating with deities before this. The gods, if truly benevolent and merciful, like the shamans always said, would not have taken her mother so quickly, nor her father so mercilessly, nor her future so unkindly. She was not sure she believed in them at all now, but she was dying on a road in the cold with her hand on a dead girl's face, the only one who cared enough, other than her oldest soldier friend, to ask for her name, and there was a violence in her chest that had nowhere to go and she had to make it go somewhere — she aimed it upward, at whatever was there, at the empty and enormous sky.

The picture of Otis and Megan together. Of course Yoonchae just had to see it after the showcase when Megan went to the back to hang out with Otis, when Yoonchae was going to run up to Megan and see her pretty face light up. Instead, she saw the way he wrapped his arm around Megan's neck... Yoonchae wouldn't call herself a violent person but it was the first time she's ever felt like breaking someone's arm.
