Summary
Levi is on his way with his ex-husband’s ashes in the trunk. Zeke is left stranded by his partner and needs a ride. The two men bring their messy pasts into an even messier encounter.

“Let me guess,” Zeke starts, and Levi looks over. “Did he die of a mysterious cause?”
Levi thinks that he should be offended, but he can’t come up with anything in his heart or mind to do so. He doesn’t know why he tells Zeke what he does. He has no clue how he expects Zeke to respond. So he just keeps looking at Zeke as if that could give him some answer.
And Zeke, when met with his blank stare, smirks. “Too soon?” His smile can be interpreted as anything but apologetic.
Levi finally frowns, “You know, a normal person in this situation would just apologize.”
Zeke just shrugs and turns away. “A normal person wouldn’t have made that joke in the first place.”

Summary
In a different universe, Levi was born in the most dangerous part of the Internment Zone. His mother passed and a strange man picked him up, only to leave him not long after.
In a different universe, Zeke never stayed late at the training camp, never met Ksaver. He struck an odd deal with a small, scrawny boy and since then, had something to look forward to every day.
In a different universe, the two boys grew up with a friend around their age. And for the first time, they experienced what it was like to be needed and loved just as they were.

[“Alright then.” The kid waved at him and turned on his heels. “Goodnight, Levi.”
Zeke’s feet seemed to be dragging, as if they were heavy. Levi watched until he couldn’t anymore and called after Zeke.
“Hey!” Levi pointed to the clock tower nearby once Zeke turned around. “Meet me here same time tomorrow.”
Just like that, Zeke’s eyes crinkled as he screamed back, “Okay!”
The smile on his face was the brightest Levi had ever seen.]
