Summary
It’s all smoke and mirrors—illusions and tricks that he sells to the world like some sort of fucked up magician. Or a con artist—Andrew thinks that’s a more apt comparison. He’s good at it, too.
Pretending came as naturally as breathing at this point. He can be anything that anyone wants him to be, even if he would love nothing more than to take a bat to the back of their skull and bash their fucking brains in until their face remained nothing but an unrecognizable red mush. They’d never know.
He’s that good.
Andrew knows the rot is there, though. He can always feel it—sloshing around in his insides like thick black sludge. Not quite like a tar pit, but something close to one. It builds in his lungs like the smoke that he blackens them with until he is choking on it, until he feels like it’s going to explode out of his fucking chest. Those days are the worst, when it’s nearly impossible to keep it together, when the staples holding his chest together burst apart and the festering rot pours out.
Ashley is always harder to ignore on those days.

Summary
Andrew drives through a rain-soaked city with Ashley asleep beside him, the storm outside a pale reflection of the one within. After breaking quarantine and leaving behind a trail of blood and questions, the siblings are fugitives with nowhere to go and no one to trust. As the road stretches on in silence and fog, his mind wanders to the apartment, of what they did, of what they became.
Now, Andrew clings to the only thing that feels real anymore: her.
A loose story continuation to the Burial route.
"Don't you want a world that's just the two of us?"
Andrew didn't respond immediately. He knew what the right answer was, but that wasn't the truth, was it? If they were the only people in the entire world, then there would be nobody to bother them. Nobody would judge them or ask questions, and they could live however they wanted... whatever that actually meant in practice.
But then what?
He stared out at the road in front of them, his jaw clenched. What would happen after that? Would she be happy? Would he?
