Summary
Gleaming beneath the dim, yellow glow of streetlight are a mix more than a dozen hyper and supercars, idling in rows upon rows. The cars from earlier scattered between other McLarens, Mercedes, Ferraris, Aston Martins, even a couple of Bugattis. Noah lets out a low whistle, eyes wide.
"Bloody hell," he mutters, slowing to a stop at the edge of the group.

He falters; half-falling down the stairs when he sees her. Sprawled just yards away, forcing herself up in slow disjointed movements. There's a whooshing sound in his ears. Then he's moving, pushing closer, his heartbeat thrumming in his ears.
"Lala!"

Shane sinks deeper into the chair he can't quite let himself fall asleep in. There had been a moment, hours ago now, where he had dragged himself out of her room, across the parking lot, and into his truck. He hadn't managed to make it any further. Every step had felt wrong, pulling against the tugging sensation hidden beneath his ribcage.
He glances down at his watch, 2:37am. Shane winces, stretching out against the hard plastic.

Summary
She doesn't have to turn around to know it's him. His presence is tangible, matching the curve of her tattoo and the raised edge of her scar.
"Noah," he calls softly.
She turns slowly, and finds Nick leaning against the doorframe. Gold in the honey-bright rays of the evening sun. He looks hesitant, and was fixing Noah with a look she didn't like.

Summary
“Yeah, no, feeling better, thanks for asking.”
Lamb squinted at him, bemused. “Cartwright, if I gave a damn about your feelings, I’d have offed myself in solidarity years ago.”
Lech’s voice was wistful as he murmured, “If only.”
Lamb flicked his dead cigarette onto the pavement and nodded to River. “I saw you in there peeking out the window like some kind of pervy uncle.”
“Sure you’d know all about that,” River countered.
“Well, you’d be mistaken there,” the platonic ideal of a pervy uncle sneered back at him. “I’m an only child.”
Despite being on sick leave, River cannot escape Slough House, as he and Sid are forced to take in a hostage on the run for her life, who may or may not be a Russian spy.
Because I love River and Sid and wish they had appeared in book 8. Bad Actors but Sophie de Greer is sent to stay with Sid and River. Occurs earlier in the year than Bad Actors and I’m completely ignoring the existence of the COVID pandemic.
Characterization is a blend of book and show.
