Summary
Adam’s fingers traced the curve of his tattoo over his shoulder. He watched them move, transfixed as always by the strange grace of Adam’s movements.
“When did you know you liked boys?” Adam asked.
Ronan and Adam, putting things into words.

( 7:02AM ) grantaire: coup de foudre
He doesn't know why he says it. Maybe he's sleep-deprived. Maybe he's finally lost whatever was left of his mind. Standing in the bathroom mirror, he had meant only to type it and then erase it and say something funny instead. Hitting 'send' was an accident. Oh Christ, he's in for it now. Enjolras is already typing. That 'slamming his head into the wall' idea is sounding better by the second.
His phone whooshes with an incoming message.
( 7:03AM ) enjolras: Yes, that.
What the fuck.

“I thought you were supposed to be the hot mess,” Adam said, half a whisper. “Not me.”
“Nah,” Ronan said. “Tamquam alter idem, baby, remember? We match.”

Summary
During one of his late nights, Ronan stayed up, flipping through old videos of Adam. Ronan could make out the faint whisper of a smile on his face each time he scored. And his crackling voice, painted over with a thick Welsh accent.
In his newer interviews, Adam’s accent was almost unrecognizable. It was poised, perfect, and unmistakably British. He would switch over to Spanish seamlessly every time a question was asked.
All Ronan could think was: Fuck you.

Summary
No one at Watford is Welsh. No one feels lucky. No one feels grateful. No one wears shirts with small holes in the collars. No one marvels at scones and tea with cream and sugar and the never ending supply of cigarettes that flow through the campus like manna from Heaven. No one feels the need, every moment of every day, to prove their place. To prove that they deserve to be here. That they were right for being chosen.
Everyone — even the best of them, even Penny — is like Baz Pitch.***
1961. Watford University has just become co-educational, the world is changing, and autumn is coming to a close. Simon Snow is far from home in Wales, out of place at Watford, and obsessed with a mystery. And the boy in the flat next door.
