Summary
Clint Barton is one of S.H.I.E.L.D's most valued assets and when an undercover mission comes up, the paramilitary organisation can't risk sending him straight into HYDRA's hands. Yet the take down of HYDRA can't happen unless an agent can go in and bring them down from the inside, so they send in Pietro Maximoff.
Pietro Maximoff is a member of a small team of people who carry out various operations in return for a cash amount and surely if they're paid enough they'd be willing to send a member into HYDRA. But the old man who's assigned to work with Pietro on this mission is completely unbearable.
(or, the fic where Age of Ultron completely ruined me emotionally because Pietro Maximoff deserved so much and he didn't get it so I create an entire au so that he can live and fall in love with Clint Barton like he should've in the movie)

The man stops his approach. “Or you’ll… throw a book at me?”
The stranger’s eyes follow the chain from Dean’s ankle to the wall and then centers back to him and the book. He can practically hear the guy thinking something like, ‘what good is a book gonna do you when you’re chained up like an animal?’
“Are you gonna kill me?” Dean hesitantly looks up. It’s a little disorienting to be met with the biggest kicked-puppy-eyes he’s ever seen before. He didn’t expect that sort of expression on the face of someone who was choking a guy to death a few minutes ago.

After getting kicked out from home, Dean lives on the streets selling himself to survive, only to get kidnapped and imprisoned. His savior comes in the form of a man murdering his kidnapper. Not wanting to go back to his lonely, homeless life, he seeks out this mysterious stranger to try and find somewhere he can belong.

When Charles is 7, he comes across a sad looking boy after a race and gives him a penny, trying to coax a smile from the shy, blonde kid with no clue that it would spark over a decades worth of friendship, some despair, and a whole lot of pining.

Max doesn’t respond. He just stands there, unmoving.And Charles lets him, for a moment, waits for Max to speak on his own. When it's clear that he won't, Charles flips their hands over, pushing the coin back into Max’s palm.
The penny was always braver than either of them.
Max breaks their eye contact to look down, and then slowly rakes his eyes up, lingering at the lower half of Charles’ face before settling back on his eyes.
“I want to kiss you.”
