She steps into view, Answerer in hand, only to see a young woman and young man who very much resemble her.
It stuns her into inaction for a moment, allowing the man to step forth. “You…” he utters, sword pointed at her. “Fight me.”
Dietrich’s mouth splits into a wide grin. “That’s exactly what I wanted to hear.”
“Emile…” the woman warns.
“Mercedes… it’s alright. There’s just something about her… it will be settled by our duel.”
“A stranger who appeared out of nowhere?” Mercedes says doubtfully. “Then again, you’re right. It’s almost like I’m looking in a mirror! But… what do you have to settle?”
“If she is as strong as she appears to be… if she is worthy of wielding a blade as magnificent as that…” some strangled sort of yearning leaks into Emile’s voice. “I must know it. And then, perhaps, we will know if she can be trusted.” -
