“Jason,” Bruce interrupts, “it’s alright. What do you want to ask us?”
Jason is quiet for a few minutes. Dick is about to poke his head around the corner to look at him when he finally speaks up.
“I was… thinking maybe I could start calling you guys Dad and Pa?”
Dick’s stomach drops.

Conner is fucked up.
He’s fucked up and wrong in the head and so so mentally unwell and, really, the fact had been made extremely clear in just the first few months of his life out in the real world - first few hours of simply being in Clark’s presence but come on there had got to be an end to the countless uncountable thoughts swimming in his head that leave him frighteningly anxious and wanting to knock his skull bloody into the darn wall.
Or: Conner is mentally reeling, then has a surprise visitor.
