“Rocky, we’ve been through this, I can’t sleep.” I insist, in a sharper tone than I’d usually use when bickering with him.
“Haven’t even tried.” He retorts.
“Trying makes it worse.” I sigh. He just doesn’t get it. He doesn’t know how I feel lying there for hours and hours, willing my body to just give in and let me sleep. The feeling of being on the verge of dropping off, then my mind conjuring up something new and horrifying for me to panic about. The dread of wondering if I’ll ever sleep properly again, or if there’s something deeply and irreversibly wrong with me after everything I’ve been through.

Grace can't sleep, but as usual, Rocky finds a solution.

What would it be like to be a part of that? You don’t know how. You don’t even think you can. It would be like trying to fly, or breathing underwater. Impossible.
But you can dream, if only just for a moment. Then you shake yourself and hurry on your way, before they can come around the corner to discover you lingering there. Like the starving and untamed thing that you are, always wanting more than your fair share.
