Harper--better known by her online handle DracoLich--is on a crusade to point out why some of the stories posted on her favorite online fiction archive are problematic.

After all, that's only reason she reads them. To educate the author and other readers on the issues present in the works. There is nothing else there.

    Nothing at all.

    Bookmarker's Notes

    NeverStayMissing: You're a submissive

    DracoLich: I'm sorry???

DracoLich: You don't know anything about me

DracoLich: You have no idea what I am

NeverStayMissing: I thought you may have been a sadist who couldn't come to terms with it, but after reading everything, you're more focused on how all my submissive characters feel

    NeverStayMissing: How helpless they are

NeverStayMissing: How it must feel for them to be exploited and used and owned

NeverStayMissing: Here are some comments you've made to prove that
She posted three in rapid succession. I skimmed them over. My stomach was doing flips. I felt like I'd been shoved right out of a plane. Something about the way she typed that message cut right to the core of me. I bit my lip and tried to use the pain to focus, then recoiled. What was I doing? That wasn't—
Fuck. Back on track. Her framing made no sense. Of course, I was going to be more focused on how the submissive character felt. I wasn't interested in embodying the mindset of a sadist. There was nothing to relate to there. I wasn't a monster.

In order to kiss her, she’ll have to shift forward onto her knees and lean over to Jamie’s end of the couch, which will be awkward and not at all smooth and easy the way she wants it to be. She used to think that the reason she never wanted Eddie was because he was always so clumsy and overeager about the whole thing; it never felt like he was ever making any sort of effort, he just wanted her all the time, made it abundantly clear how bad he wanted her, and privately she always thought that maybe if he’d bothered to hide it a little, played it cool, she wouldn’t have been so indifferent toward him. It was a cruel thought to entertain, and she’d never voiced the idea out loud, but — it had lingered.
But now Dani’s the one who’s clumsy and overeager, the one who wants so bad she couldn’t possibly hide it if she tried. She feels a sort of kinship with Eddie in hindsight.

"What did you think of the scene?"

"The uh—" Rio coughs, "The intimate scene?"

"The in—" Agatha's sigh cuts her off and her laugh enters Rio's space, "Can you not even say the word sex, Rio?"

"I can—" Rio's ears feel hot, and she snatches the beer back, eyes finding the doorway, but there's no one there but them, "I can say sex."

"Oh, can you?" Agatha presses in close until they're almost touching. Rio's not—she's not great with touch; she doesn't receive it much in any capacity. "Because to me, it sounded like you're nervous in the way someone who's never been touched is." Agatha's lips curl into a grin like she's already excited for her next words, and she gasps, over exaggerated, "Are you a virgin, Rio?"

    Bookmarker's Notes

In a move Rio couldn't have expected, Agatha reaches across the table, electrifies Rio's skin with a light touch to the back of their hand—the one on their face—and brings it gently down to the table. She laces their fingers together; the tightening locking sensation has Rio unable to breathe for as long as it takes to fully join them together.
It's been so long since they have touched like this. Not fleeting, not played off as accidental, not flirting. Just touch.
Somehow, even with half the tables filled, Rio can't hear anyone else in the room, feels almost caught in a vacuum, and so they're startled when Agatha says, "I'd be the first to tell you if something was embarrassing. I think you've known for longer than you realize. You told me years ago that you didn't like the way she and her made you feel. I put the pieces together."
Rio flails for their words, but Agatha's grip on their hand just tightens, grounds them, "I'm forty."
They watch as Agatha's lip quirks like she wants to say something wildly inappropriate for the moment.
"If it makes you feel good, then do it." Is what she settles on.
Rio can barely hear their own voice, "I can't just do whatever makes me feel good."
    Agatha's response is simple.
    "Why not?"

    Summary

Agatha leans in towards Rio, all attention on her, “I told them I’m going on a date tonight—”

“Ah, so there’s the line. You know, if you wanted to take me out, you could’ve just asked.”

Agatha glares at Rio for her stupid joke, “No need for all the excess—a photo of you will do, just so they know when I come home that I could date if I wanted to.”

“So you want a picture of me to convince everyone back home that you’re going on a date… instead of just going on a date?”

Agatha clicks and points at Rio, “Now you’re getting it.”

Agatha needs to convince her son and her friends that she’s having the whirlwind vacation romance of a lifetime. Probably so they don’t think she’ll die alone. That’s where Rio (who she knows absolutely nothing about) comes in.

    Bookmarker's Notes

"Rio settles back, doesn’t even so much as glance at Agatha, which is a little frustrating since all of her attention is caught on the expanse of Rio’s body as she stretches out, the muscles in her stomach captivating as she moves into a comfortable position. A hand comes up to rest behind her head, and Agatha is treated to the sight of her bicep flexing.
It turns out the sunglasses are a pretty useless cover when her whole head unconsciously moves to follow Rio’s motions, a ridiculous sort of heliotropic movement that has Agatha’s face flushing from more than her days spent under the burning sun, when she spots Rio turning her head just slightly, a smirk obvious to anyone paying close enough attention."
    --
The use of heliotropic is so peak. I loved Nicky and Agatha's relationship.

    Summary

Rumi had done her research. She had prepared for sex the way she would for any new experience: as an obstacle to be conquered when the time came, as something she could prime herself for through training, something she would be ready for if only she worked hard enough in advance. But she hadn’t expected it to be anything like this. The hot sticky overwhelm of it all. She had thought they would talk more; she had, cringing, practiced dirty talk in the mirror, the way she’d heard tops croon low and sweet in American porn, the way she thought her girls might like.

Rumi is not used to wanting things.

    Bookmarker's Notes

Fear is familiar. She knows not to want things. The icy frisson of it grounds her, for a moment, until she completes the sentence — she knows not to want things she can’t have. For so long, everything that mattered had been in that category. Rumi does not know what to do with herself now that everything has changed, now that everything she used to want has been torn apart, now that she has to make herself again without even the outline of her old self as a stencil. She had wanted a golden daesang and a golden Honmoon and to pour herself, like molten gold, into the mould that had been cast for her. Now she wants the basest fucking things. She wants her best friends to touch her where she’s wettest. She wants to be wanted. She wants the oppressive closeness of a body against her own, one that doesn’t dissolve into special effects if she hits it hard enough, one that knows the real shape of her and doesn’t flinch away. How fucking humiliating is that?
