    “I can’t imagine my life without the kid anymore. Maybe there’s a selfish part of me that hopes Ren didn’t want to go back anyway.” Sojiro smiles wryly.

    “You want to adopt him?” Akechi asks brightly, he can almost imagine a wagging tag on him.

    “Of course I do. He’s family. Don’t you think that springing both at once on him would be a lot though?” Akechi nods, contemplating something.

    “You’re right. There’s even a good chance he won’t accept because he feels you’re doing it out of pity.” Right, he hadn’t thought of that. Damn kid and his damn pride.

    “You know, he’s going on that trip next week. Hawaii. He’ll be gone a while…” Akechi says, either trying to find his words or hoping Sojiro will fill in the blanks.

    “And Ren has a lot, of dare I say, unique, friends
    all over Tokyo. If we ask some of them, there’s a chance they’d be willing to help with a little attic renovation. It doesn’t have to be much, but something to show that you’re serious about taking him in.” Akecki says carefully.
