Summary

Astarion, torn between his need for affection and the instinctive distrust that protected him for so long, is just as clueless. This Druid Master is nothing like what Astarion can understand. What does he mean there is no kennel?
It is urgent for Halsin to find the right balance between empathy and authority and just as urgent for Astarion to make sense of the former and find safety in the latter.

This is the fifth in an ongoing series - the KWL is a trans girl named Rhiannon, etc etc.
I do feel the need to state that this is one of those cases where the distinction between derivative fiction and fanfiction is important. This is not a fanwork. I got sick of telling people how much bad there was in the original material so I set out to do it in narrative form, and it turned into something I had quite a lot of fun with. The original material hurt me as a child, taught me to think unkind things about myself and now it funds an ongoing campaign to dehumanise and abuse people like me. There is nothing worth saving in it and this is just my own personal processing-things middle finger to Jowling Howling Rowling.

Cat and the gang can finally tick ‘reach the Gate’ off their to-do list, though that’s about the only good news they’re likely to get any time soon. Between the revelations about Cat’s origins, the fact Wyll’s dad just handed the city to Gortash, the Cazador problem, the impending underwater prison break, and the fact that Raphael is still. Fucking. Here. she’s not having the best time of things, and neither is anyone else.
But it’s not all bad. There’s also an elder brain under the city, a cabal of murderers roaming the streets, and the world’s worst shapeshifting niece who’s very much looking forward to making trouble. So yes, things aren’t all bad. Some things are worse.
She does have two boyfriends, though. So that’s nice.
