Summary
Three years after he's forced to witness Jim's suicide, Sebastian is still trying to fit the remaining pieces of himself back together. January finds him settled in a deep, remote stretch of Dartmoor where tourists rarely venture. With hundreds of empty miles to explore, a wild geology dappled with wetlands and tors, prehistoric ruins, and places of myth and legend- this is as far from the bone-deep ache of London as he's capable of. Seb is under no delusions that things will get better with time; they never do. But they can get different, and that's just about bearable.
These days, it feels less like Jim is standing on a rock hurtling through space on a constant trajectory, and more like he’s falling headlong towards the edge of the universe. Untethered by anything; unsure of how to calculate the moment-to-moment physics of life. There’s a thought caught up in the spiderweb of scar tissue at the back of his head, present from the moment he woke; Sebastian Moran is not important. Why, then, does he know so much about the man? Why does Jim alternate between waking up screaming with how much he hates him, and feeling hollowed out by what feels like a Sebastian-shaped hole?

Summary
Healing around Jim is a difficult undertaking.
It isn’t sadism, the way he likes to pull Sebastian’s wounds apart. That would imply sexual gratification, and Sebastian has gotten him off enough times to know this fascination is something different.
Jim likes running his fingertips over Sebastian’s sloppy homemade stitches, gentle as a farce, nails catching on the knots and pulling as he trails across Sebastian’s skin. He’ll climb into Sebastian’s lap like it’s his right, because it is, regardless of whether Sebastian wants him there, pressing close enough to mix their breath together. He’s long since learned that forcibly removing Jim will only lead to bigger fucking problems later.

Summary
You think of your life spilling all over Jim's beautiful Persian rug, of seven or eight heartbeats to pump out half your blood, and laugh harder. "Go on, then," you urge him, voice low. Your eyes are running from pain or laughter, the saltwater agony inside your open wound. It's going to scar, and badly.
Or, well. It would. Healing requires a heartbeat.
The blade nicks skin, just a pinch, because Jim doesn't have steady hands at the best of times and he's shivering now, an insane full-body shudder. His eyes look otherworldly. Belatedly, you remember his thing about being laughed at.
Rain slams down against the window panes behind you. The thunder rolls. You hardly flinched at the nick, but you can't help crying out in pain as Jim wrenches a fist in your hair and brings you right back down to your knees.

Summary
Jim's eyes darken with lust, tracing over the line of precome connecting him to Sebastian's face, his swollen mouth, the wetness smeared over his lips and cheeks and chin. He looks filthy, and Jim can't resist pulling him in for a rough kiss, his grip on Seb's hair tighter than was polite.
"So fucking pretty," he murmurs. "I'm going to sit on the edge of the bed. And I want you to suck me like you were doing before. Got it?"
He licks some of his own slick from the corner of Seb's mouth, scooting closer to the edge of the bed and planting his feet on the floor. At this angle, Jim only needs to look down to see Sebastian's hand moving over his own cock. He sighs dreamily. "Don't come before I do, hm? I have plans for you."

Summary
Jim remains a mystery to Sebastian Moran. He can’t quite get the fit of the man right, but overall, his impression is that Jim is a snarky, intelligent businessman who appears to do very little work when Sebastian’s around, but has no end to the fortune line on his right palm (his left one is almost impossible to find). Sebastian wishes he could study Jim’s hands more closely at some point.
--
Jim still isn't superstitious, and Sebastian still doesn't fit the look of a fortune teller.
