They all went downstairs, Alex at the head, carrying Jamie with her shoulders hunched over. "I should have told Kara to be quieter."
"It's okay." Maggie got on her tiptoes to kiss Alex's cheek. "Whatever you prepared for us, I'm sure it’s..."
Her voice faded as she peered into the backyard. The yard, which was fenced with tall bushes and was filled with green grass and ornamental stones, had transformed completely overnight.

Alex is the princess and the heir to the throne of Zorelia. The neighboring kingdom, Daxia, is planning a war, and Alex has to prepare and protect herself. Her mother insists she will have a close guarding, and so, Alex meets Maggie, her new personal bodyguard.

Four days later and Kirsten hasn't called again.
Amy understands. She fully understands, but she knows that it's probably taking as much of a toll on Kirsten as it is on her and Poppy. Even Fergal takes longer settling down now, constantly staring at the door and whining; his little hands up like he's waiting for Kirsten to walk through and pick him up.
He's ten months now. He knows how to say "mama" and a few other odds and ends words. He's so close to walking, using the couch or any surface he can to stand and use his legs.
Poppy's birthday is coming up soon.
September has appeared too quickly.
But, they're still in August and they still have enough time for Kirsten to be there.
