"I think if you grew it out, you'd look like that one holiday figure," Aventurine says, pretending to be entirely oblivious even as Sugilite's eye continues twitching. "What was his name again....Sansan Clouds? Santon Clause?"

"I have a razor in my hand, and yet you still keep indulging in blabbing nonsense, it's almost like you're determined to be a nuisance today." Sugilite growls, but alas, Aventurine delights in pretending to take no notice.

"Santa Claus! That's the one!" Aventurine chirps, snapping his fingers.

    "Respectfully, disappear."

Or- Aventurine has a little fun.

    Summary

After the events of the theatre, the research into Project Mistilteinn is halted. However, that doesn't mean Valeriy's bodyguard duties are over. Mitya keeps dragging him places, and he's obliged to comply to make sure nothing happens to him.

That's the only reason. Nothing else. He wasn't having strange thoughts at all.

    “My work is here.”

“Here?” Mitya’s head is pounding, so he’s not sure if he’s actually hearing him right. “You’re not-”

“The first tenet of my assignment,” Valeriy cuts in, “was your safety. We may have forgotten it over the course of these years, but escorting you back to work was always the secondary task.”

Mitya looks away. The snowstorm is still going.

Valeriy sets down the containers on his table, his motions slow and unpracticed. “If it is my role to protect you from your own mind,” he continues, quietly, “then understand that I will be there.”

“You’re taking on an… impossible task, Sarge.” Mitya’s scarf wraps around himself a little more tightly, as if trying to reassure him. He’s not sure that it’s succeeding. “You shouldn’t. I’ve always been crazy. They knew that too. It’s a small price to pay, to see our world freed from these curses.”

Valeriy does not say anything, but Mitya knows he disagrees.

OR: Mitya, on the topic of research and faith; and Valeriy, who will always be there.

(and in some ways: Orpheus, and Eurydice.)

OMGOMGOMGOMG THIS IS PERFECT! i’ve been dying to see more of his ‘death’ aside from the theatre one, and honestly the way you portrayed his death here is so on point!!!!! i imagine he must’ve been soooo desperate to reach the stars and in one of those deaths he might’ve tripped and fallen. like a fallen angel….

    Summary

" Valeriy clears his throat, eyes scanning over his troublesome charge. “You shouldn't slouch so much,” he tells him.

Mitya hardly even twitches in place, his quill blotting out whatever research notes he's been working on. Lately, he's been struggling to make progress. Valeriy has spent more time reporting his unauthorised absences to Lady Marionette than he has delivering his reports. Neither are supposed to be Valeriy's job, of course.

After another moment, Mitya hums to himself, leaning against his desk with one elbow and twisting to face him. “C’mon, Major, surely my bad back is none of your concern.”

    “Your back hurts?” "

    Or:

Four times Valeriy was worried about Mitya, and one time Mitya got worried too.
