Summary
For three hours, he’s at the beach, takes off his socks and hikes Ilyukhina’s dress up, and stands in the water. He left the cane on the shore; it hurts to let his frame bear the brunt of gravity unsupported. The reliable tide, just cool enough to chill him a little, laps at his shins.
He closes his eyes and tries to forget about himself, the familiar ache in his joints and spine. Allows himself to imagine something else.
A different truth, a hypothetical, a thought exercise.
Rocky can't bear to lose Grace. But he can bear to watch Grace wither away from a sickness easily cured by Earth medicine even less.
Grace has to make another choice.

Summary
Day 14. They moved me to a new temporary apartment today. Really, it’s just a room that's bigger than the last dark room, although at least this one isn't as stuffy. The living area has a single large window that looks out onto—you guessed it—more darkness, but occasionally I see the odd streak of white light flash across what I think is the sky. As for my health, well… I’ve lost three teeth in as many months. My hair has turned brittle and begun snapping. We just resolved the first batch of lesions then I woke up this morning with ten more. I wake up tired and go to bed tired. I haven’t shared this with anybody, but I really am not sure if I’m going to make it.
Rocky still hasn't visited.

Tim can see so clearly how this is going to go. Batman will never kill the Joker. Jason will take that as proof that Bruce doesn't care about him, has never cared about him. Bruce will try and try to prove him wrong, twisting himself up tighter and tighter and doing worse and worse every time. Jason will see confirmation of Bruce's disinterest in every twitch, and Bruce will see the evidence of his own failure in every rebuff.
Sometimes Tim is so, so tired.
