"I was breathless with nerves and divided in my own mind. At one moment I was sure we could not continue as we had been. I must speak, or lose Holmes' trust by my silence. The next moment I felt I could never speak unless Holmes himself invited me to. Surely he must have recognized my affection; if he had not mentioned it, he would not wish me to."

The idea for this story partially inspired by Random_Nexus' beautiful The Bee Grove. Highly recommended: http://archiveofourown.org/works/8027908/chapters/18381751

Watson gets out his old uniform. Or, as thingswithwings put it, "Watson, Hesitant Dom, as companion to Holmes, Awkward Military Fetishist". That is an entirely true summary. But I should note that this is actually quite fluffy.

    Summary

Perhaps what Crocker said should have made a greater impression on me at the time- as it must have on Holmes- for it was quite a neat encapsulation of my own existence. Perhaps it did not because for all I loved him, for all I wanted things which could never be mine, I often forgot to be discontented for days, even weeks, at a time. Crumbs from Sherlock Holmes were, I felt, a feast from anyone else. But in the moment I was unspeakably grateful to our friend the captain for saying and meaning what I could not.

In the aftermath of the Abbey Grange case, Holmes and Watson make an agreement- but all is not as it seems.
