Summary
The Sword's eyes make Castiel feel small and impossible. They make Castiel feel cold, and aching, and exhausted, and hopeful. They make Castiel feel—
They make Castiel feel.
Silent, he raises his hand.
The Sword flinches, fierce and sudden.
"Don't—" he starts, gathering his legs beneath him, moving to stand and retreat. The fear from before blooms around his soul like slick oil in clean water, dark and deadly. Numbly, Castiel realizes he had not noticed it leave at all. "Don't touch me—"
"Dean Winchester," Castiel says, quiet and careful, "You are Saved."
And he rests his hand on the Sword.
—
Castiel is told to save Dean Winchester. It is the only thing he will never fail to do.

Summary
“Oh,” says Nina, sudden and soft, and Crowley watches the indignation in her expression melt away.
This is how he finds himself, rather abruptly or perhaps not abruptly at all, sitting in an empty coffee shop with two human women across the table from him, gazing at him with such familiarity that Crowley feels the overwhelming need to get the Hell out of there.
He doesn’t.
—
Aziraphale leaves. Crowley feels.

Summary
“My name is Luke,” Luke introduces. “And I… I’d really appreciate it if you could shoot me.”
There’s a long moment where the man doesn’t react. No acceptance or rejection, no words at all, not even a tilt of his helmet. He only stands there and stares, and Luke can’t tell which one of them he’s looking at—can’t tell anything, really, of what he might be feeling, hidden behind the visor. His stance projects him as strong and confident and nothing else, and Luke finds himself sorely missing the connection of another person’s gaze, even a stranger’s, even one who he’s just asked to kill him.
Finally, just when Luke is starting to wonder if he’s going to have to beg for the dignity of his own death, the man asks, “Couldn’t do it yourself?”
It’s callous and awful and kind of fucked up, and it makes Luke laugh, just a little.
—
There is something about the universe, Luke Skywalker believes, that is relentlessly determined to keep him alive, whether he wants to be or not. It takes shape in the form of Din Djarin.

Summary
There’s not much use thinking about those times, anymore. He will always be Hob Gadling, but the biggest part of what that used to entail had stormed away on a rainy night like this one hundred and thirty years ago, and hadn’t come back.
Hob remembers the ache in his chest in 1989. He remembers the glow of the pub, so much warmer than the pale light cutting across the alley now. He remembers staring at that empty chair for hours—first with anxiety, then with concern, and eventually with bitterness.
“You dare suggest one such as I might need your companionship.”
Hob had dared, and he’d paid for it.
He’d walked out of that pub in 1989 and not looked back.
—
It's 2020, and Hob Gadling is old, tired, and bitter, dancing the waltz of London's underground black market. Word has spread about something from the Burgess Estate going to auction, and who is Hob to deny himself and his team the opportunity to get their hands on it?

Summary
“Loo,” Grogu whines, both his hands on the Jedi’s face now, his big eyes locked on the wound.
Once, Din might have banished his son from the room, an effort to spare the child from the grim reality of this kind of violence. Once, he might have looked at Grogu and seen only helplessness and a lack of understanding, a baby unexposed to the world outside his pram. Once, he might have even tried to offer platitudes he never quite believed himself, fake reassurances like ash on his tongue, expecting Grogu wouldn’t possibly know any different.
But that was once, and this is now, and Grogu’s tiny beskar chainmail gleams under his robes in the dull light of Din’s bedroom.
So, instead of he’ll be okay and nothing to worry about, Din looks at his son and asks, “How’s he doing, kid?”
—
Wrecking an X-Wing in Din's front yard wasn't on his list of feasible ways the Jedi might show up again, but all things considered, it's at least a little better than cutting through an entire squadron of Darktroopers single-handed.

Summary
“You okay?” Jean asks, softly. Jean shifts from foot to foot and averts his gaze, and Armin smiles a little at the poor attempt at being casual, even as Jean continues, “I haven’t seen you like this since… y’know.”
Since Trost, hangs unspoken between them.
Armin swallows, grimaces at the taste of bile, looks down at his boots. He folds the handkerchief, unfolds it, folds it again. Jean waits, quiet and patient.
“If…” Armin starts, and stops, and bites the inside of his cheek. “If, um… If I said, hypothetically, that the Titan Hanji captured has imprinted on me, what would you say?”
Jean is silent for a long beat, then: “I think I’d say you have some pretty shit luck.”
Armin almost chokes on the strangled laugh that leaps from his throat.
—
Six years ago, Armin Arlert watched his best friend be eaten alive because of his own inability to act. Now, he's given the opportunity to advance human knowledge further than it's been in over a century, and he should be ecstatic—except fate has a funny way of laughing at him, and Armin finds himself on the receiving end of its cruelest joke to date.

Summary
“Fuck,” Kirishima croaks, leaning down with a hand on Katsuki’s shoulders. The tears in his eyes are spilling down his cheeks now, open and shameless in a way Katsuki can’t help but remember mocking when they were younger. “Katsuki, dude, please, there’s gotta be something we can do—”
Katsuki tries to speak, but all that comes out instead is a choked gurgle and a strangled wheeze and something small but solid crawling up his throat, and this time there’s bile with the blood that hits his kitchen floor.
Bile, blood, and the most damning flower bud he’s ever seen, curled up in a deep green cradle, the shy edges of yellow petals peeking out from the center.
“Oh, Katsuki,” Ashido croaks, thin and wet with tears, “Sunflowers.”
—
Katsuki didn't think his day off would involve spitting flowers, but that's just his luck.

Summary
“Fine,” you spit. You’re still shaking, but the fear is mixed with anger now, a bitterness that follows all of life’s unfair balances. “Fine. Whatever. I won’t tell anyone that Fazbear is letting a criminal run free and paying for his treatments to boot. But what the fuck do you want me to do about this thing?”
“Work on it,” Margaret says. She doesn’t acknowledge your barb, probably for the better. It still burns you. “Figure out how you can decommission the Naptime Attendant without damaging the Daycare Attendant. It’s the Naptime’s that turned violent, and we can’t return the animatronic to the public until it’s gone.”
“You want me to get rid of the half that saved a little girl,” you scowl.
“I want you to get rid of the half that put a man in the hospital.”
“I’m not a software engineer, Mag.”
“You are, now. If anything happens to you, tell me. You know I’ve got your back here.”
You’re starting to wonder if that’s true.
—
Last week, the recently debuted Daycare Attendant put a man in the hospital. Corporate has decided it's your problem, now.

Summary
“An Endless?” Hob asks, softly, because it feels like a question that needs to be soft.
“That’s what we are,” Death responds, trying again for a small smile. “Me and D—”
“Don’t,” Hob interrupts, far stronger than he meant to, and Death looks surprised for as long as it takes him to get out, “Don’t, please. I-I want to hear it from him.”
Sympathy colors Death’s gaze even as Hob feels his face burn. Six hundred years, Hob thinks—he’ll be damned if he finds out his Stranger’s name from anyone but the odd man himself.
—
It's 1989 and Hob Gadling thinks he's been stood up. Death herself is kind enough to inform him otherwise—and, well, now Hob's got to bloody do something about it, doesn't he?

Summary
“Please, just Freddy is fine,” he hums, stepping back from the guardrail. “If we’re going to learn what happened, and how to best keep the children safe, let us be on a regular name basis.”
This feels so incredibly strange, Sun thinks. Moony curls beneath his processor, a soft brush of agreement.
“Sun, then,” Sun responds. “And Moony. He’s the Naptime Attendant.”
Freddy inclines his head, pats the guardrail once, and adds, “The others and I look forward to working with the two of you.”
Sun isn’t sure how much he believes that.
—
Sun is the most alone he's ever felt, contained in Parts and Service. It's hard to trust someone else when he's no longer sure if he can trust the other half of himself.

Summary
As they reach the Daycare exit, the guard glances back at Moon. “Did he really?” he questions, quietly. “Try and take her, I mean?”
Moon pauses, just long enough to keep his voice box carefully neutral, and answers, “Yes.”
“Hm.” The guard looks away again. “Bastard got what was comin’ to him, then.”
—
There is an attempted kidnapping in the Daycare, but Moon is security, after all.

Summary
"Stanley," Ford says, maybe a little strangled, maybe a lot manic, enough of either or both for his brother's eyes to snap to him immediately, "Get the fuck away from it."
"The fuck are you talking about?" Stan demands. He adjusts his grip on the monster so he can pick it up like a child; it's the same height as him but less than half the width. "The kid's gotta be fuckin' dying, Ford, we gotta call the cops—"
"It's the demon, Stanley," Ford grinds out. Fury is bubbling hot in his stomach, pushing his hands to curl into fists. He wants to rip the thing out of his brother's arms and throw it back outside and pretend this didn't happen. He wants to trap it in his lab underground and demand to know how many it killed to gain a human form. He wants to know whose body it stole. He wants to smash its face in.
Stan's brow furrows, and Ford can almost hear the gears turning in his brother's head. To save him the trouble, Ford growls, "That's Cipher."
Stan drops the body onto the floor of the shopfront like it burned him.
—
Bill Cipher arrives on Stanford Pines' front porch bloody and within an inch of his newly human life. Stanford wishes he'd closed the door.

Summary
Slowly, Jaskier peeks his eyes open, peering from his peripheral at the beast—and it’s just standing in front of the door, head low and ears back, its hackles raised, making no move to suggest it’s going to lunge and make the bard its next meal.
It’s in this short bout of staring that Jaskier notices the metal around its neck, mostly lost in the fluff of its white fur, curling down to a medallion hanging against its chest.
A medallion of a wolf’s head.
“Oh, fuck me,” Jaskier wheezes, “Fucking—I—Melitele’s arse, Geralt?”
The wolf—fucking Geralt—whuffs out a breath like he'd been holding it, hackles lowering, and growls softly.
—
Geralt gets himself turned into a wolf. Jaskier gets to deal with the consequences.
