Caine's been spending a lot of time off on his own lately, usually somewhere high above the circus. Pomni's been keeping an eye on him, and notices he's quieter than usual, even when they're all off on adventures together. After spending some time with Jax one evening, she spots him in the middle of one of his 'contemplation sessions', particularly in a place she can actually get to. So, like any good 'friend' would do, she goes to check on him.

It’s been two weeks since he walked into his own home to find one of his students reading a book, a sly smile on his arrogant face, and a dead body dangling from a hook in his basement.
His world has since become no less surreal.
Not that it ever was particularly real, in the sense of white picket fence American normalcy (whatever that entailed), but what little sense of centeredness Alastor Beaumont once had has been grievously interrupted by this bright-eyed, enthusiastic boy with a staggering amount of intelligence and disturbingly little self-preservation.
Vincent sits cross-legged on his couch, a spoon raised halfway to his mouth as he watches the local news cover the mysterious disappearance of one Dr. Theodore R. Thorne. He’s wearing a pair of glasses and comfortable lounge wear. Milk drips from the spoon, back into the bowl of cereal that he has apparently forgotten, and Alastor makes a soft tsking noise.
“You’re going to make a mess,” he says, not quite irritated.
