Summary
Cal crash-lands on Bracca at age thirteen, gets poisoned a few months later, and promptly spends the next five years subsisting on safe, reliable ration bars (except when he’s stashing them away for emergencies or forced to eat bad medcenter food). He’s just barely scraping by, but he manages not to starve, even when the Guild’s being a real pain in the ass about actually feeding its scrappers.
Everything works out fine until he winds up on the Mantis, instead. Suddenly he has a new purpose, along with some new crewmates who are way too invested in finding out why Cal doesn’t karking eat… and trying to do something about it.

Summary
“Come now! This is an exciting opportunity for you. Any name you want, I will accept. Think of it as a game.” The faerie doesn’t seem like he’s going to let Deuce know who he is anytime soon. He sighs, trying to think of a nickname. Every time, Deuce lands on something related to his horns…
“Gazelle.” Deuce decides.
“Gazelle?” He echoes, confusion mixing with amusement. Deuce nods back rapidly.
“Your horns remind me of gazelle horns. So I’ll call you Gazelle.”
----------
Deuce always goes to the beach to cool off when he’s mad. One day, someone else is there when he visits. Who could've guessed the friend he made was a prince?
(Apparently everybody except him)

Summary
His eyes are empty, lost in the horizon. He's frozen, like he's trying to make himself disappear, to make himself seem like a smaller target. It's the look in his eyes, she'll decide later. It's familiar in a way that makes Kanao shake.
(It's easy, when you're broken, to notice someone who's broken too.)
